This report provides a recommendation regarding the Elizabeth Fry Society Safe Harbour House Emergency Shelter Program for women and the Sudbury Action Centre for Youth NEST Warming Centre and Emergency Shelter Program for youth.

This report provides information on a request received to rename the Garson Community Centre/Arena to the George Armstrong Community Centre and Arena. The report outlines next steps, including community consultation, in the renaming process as per the City’s Building, Property and Park Naming Policy (By-law 2012-256).

This report provides recommendations regarding entering into two (2) sole source contracts, both with a contract term of five (5) years, plus a five (5) year extension option (ten (10) year total) with Demers Ambulance Inc. and Rowland Emergency Vehicle Products Inc. for the purchase of land ambulances and paramedic response unit (PRU) fleet upfitting (conversion) services, respectively. In addition, these contracts ensure that standardization of our fleet is maintained.

As presented by Councillors McIntosh and Lapierre:


WHEREAS the City of Greater Sudbury completed an Arena Renewal Strategy in 2013 which included community consultation, analysis of ice usage trends and demographic changes and considerations for arena replacement and repair;
 
AND WHEREAS City Council committed to the Valley East Twin Pad Multi-Purpose Sports Complex during the 2022 budget deliberations, a scenario recommended by the 2013 Arena Renewal Strategy;
 
AND WHEREAS the remainder of the City of Greater Sudbury’s arenas are for the most part aged facilities, lacking modern amenities and accessibility, requiring significant capital investment;
 
AND WHEREAS the City’s Parks, Open Space and Leisure Master Plan (2014) Review is scheduled to undertake a complete review and update in the year 2024;


THEREFORE LET IT BE RESOLVED THAT City Council direct staff to update the 2013 Arena Renewal Study as part of the Parks, Open Space and Leisure Master Plan update which provides a 25 year vision for arena facilities in Greater Sudbury.
 

This report provides information regarding a quarterly update with respect to operational issues, activities, and accomplishments in support of resident safety goals, objectives, and good news stories for Pioneer Manor.

This report provides an update on the business activities within the Emergency Management Section of the Community Safety Department as it relates to the adoption of the Stronger Together host community framework in advance of the flood and wildfire season in Ontario in 2023.
