WHEREAS New Metric Media and their production teams for Letterkenny and Shoresy have developed and produced multi-award-winning series in Greater Sudbury that have been nominated for 40 Canadian Screen Awards and has won 10 of them, with recognition from international media;
AND WHEREAS through their work in the film and television industry Letterkenny and Shoresy have created significant economic impact, have supported hundreds of jobs and have attracted many talented crew members and entrepreneurs to the community who have gone on to lend expertise, goods and services to film productions across Northern Ontario;
AND WHEREAS New Metric Media has been confirmed for a contribution from the province’s Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation film fund program that is lower than their request, the company’s appeal for reconsideration has been declined, and the production is now facing a funding shortfall that threatens their ability to continue filming in Greater Sudbury this fall;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Greater Sudbury provide in-kind support in the amount of $50,000 from the 2021 operational budget to offset the applicable charges associated with the production’s use of the Sudbury Community Arena in November and December 2021;
AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Greater Sudbury express its support for New Metric Media and the Letterkenny and Shoresy production teams by advocating to the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation and the Ontario government for the importance of the funding provided to the film and television industry in our community.
