    THAT the City of Greater Sudbury approves the fee reduction policy as outlined in the report entitled “Tower Rental Fee Reduction for Broadband Projects in Underserviced Areas”, from the General Manager of Corporate Services presented at the Finance and Administration Committee meeting on November 16, 2021;

    AND THAT the City of Greater Sudbury directs staff to prepare a fee reduction by-law.

    THAT The City of Greater Sudbury accepts the complete and eligible 2021 Community Improvement Plan Intake Applications for 96 Larch Street, 124 Elm Street, 158 Elgin Street, 291 Lourdes Street, 10 Beech Street, and 81 Larch Street, and directs staff to prepare the necessary by-laws to authorize staff to enter into the necessary agreements, as outlined in the report entitled “Update on the 2021 Community Improvement Plan Intake Period”, from the General Manager of Growth and Infrastructure presented at the Finance and Administration Committee Meeting on November 16, 2021.

    THAT The City of Greater Sudbury accepts the CIP application at 131 Durham Street, for a total of $145,000, inclusive of the $115,000 for the Façade Improvement Grant, and directs staff to prepare the necessary by-law to authorize staff to enter into the necessary agreement, as outlined in the report entitled “Update on the 2021 Community Improvement Plan Intake Period”, from the General Manager of Growth and Infrastructure, presented at the Finance and Administration Committee Meeting on November 16, 2021.

Councillor Jakubo presented a Member's Motion regarding support for New Metric Media and the Letterkenny and Shoresy production teams and asked that notice be waived.

    WHEREAS New Metric Media and their production teams for Letterkenny and Shoresy have developed and produced multi-award-winning series in Greater Sudbury that have been nominated for 40 Canadian Screen Awards and has won 10 of them, with recognition from international media;

    AND WHEREAS through their work in the film and television industry Letterkenny and Shoresy have created significant economic impact, have supported hundreds of jobs and have attracted many talented crew members and entrepreneurs to the community who have gone on to lend expertise, goods and services to film productions across Northern Ontario;

    AND WHEREAS New Metric Media has been confirmed for a contribution from the province’s Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation film fund program that is lower than their request, the company’s appeal for reconsideration has been declined, and the production is now facing a funding shortfall that threatens their ability to continue filming in Greater Sudbury this fall;

    THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Greater Sudbury provide in-kind support in the amount of $50,000 from the 2021 operational budget to offset the applicable charges associated with the production’s use of the Sudbury Community Arena in November and December 2021;

    AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Greater Sudbury express its support for New Metric Media and the Letterkenny and Shoresy production teams by advocating to the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation and the Ontario government for the importance of the funding provided to the film and television industry in our community.
